天 下 皆 知 美 之 為 美, tian xia jie zhi mei zhi wéi mei 斯 惡 已。 si è yi 皆 知 善 之 為 善, ie zhi shàn zhi wei shàn 斯 不 善 已。 si bu shàn yi 故 gu 有 無 相 生, you wu xiang sheng 難 易 相 成, nan yì xiang chéng 長 短 相 形, chang duan xiang xing 高 下 相 盈, gao xia xiang quing 音 聲 相 和, yin sheng xiang hé 前 後 相 隨。 qian hòu xiang sui 恒 也。 是 以 聖 人 shi yi shèng ren 處 無 為 之 事 chu wú wéi zhi shi 行 不 言 之 教; xíng bù yán zhi jiào 萬 物 作 而 弗 始, wàn wù zuò ér fú shi 生 而 弗 有, sheng ér fú you 為 而 弗 恃, wéi ér fú shì 功 成 而 不 居。 gong chéng ér fú ju 夫 唯 弗 居, fu wéi fú ju 是 以 不 去。 shì yi bù qù All in the world know the beauty of the beautiful, and in doing this they have (the idea of) what ugliness is; they all know the skill of the skilful, and in doing this they have (the idea of) what the want of skill is.
